This cider gets its deep rose coloration from a pair of fruiting shrubs native to Maine and grown here on the farm.  Sambucus and Aronia - Elderberry and Chokeberry - have been used for millennia for the tonic properties derived from their high content of anthocyanins, which also causes their purple hue.  These dark berries, rich in antioxidants, impart herbaceous flavor, complex structure and a sprightly mouthfeel to the cider.
